"The Congress has never opposed any government decision to gain political mileage. Even today we stand firmly for the people of the state. We will continue to take up people's issues with the government in future as well," Chavan told reporters at his first press briefing after the appointment.
Chavan termed the situation of farmers in the state as disturbing and announced his plans of touring various districts to get a first hand information.
Decisions regarding the working of the state unit will be taken after holding discussions with former chief Manikrao Thakre," he said.
Chavan demanded that the BJP-led state government provide immediate assistance to farmers who have lost their crops due to unseasonal rains in the last two days.
