Chavan sanctions Rs 429 crore cancer hospital at Nagpur

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today approved setting up of a Rs 429 crore Cancer hospital at Nagpur.
The hospital will come up in the premises of Government Medical College and Hospital and the expenditure to be incurred has been cleared by Chavan, the CMO said here.
The decision will benefit cancer patients from Nagpur and nearby districts including that from Central India.
The state government will request the Centre to provide funds of Rs 378.47 crore under the National Cancer Grid Scheme for construction of the hospital and procuring state-of-the- art medical equipments. The rest of the funds will be pitched in by the state government.
Chavan said Nagpur is the state's second capital and the cancer hospital has to be of international standards and directed the concerned officials to ensure that quality is not comprised.
