"The proposed 605-meter skywalk with a pathway of 145 meters from Thane Railway Station to Vitava in Kalwa will save human life from frequent fatal accidents due to non-availability of safe passage to cross Thane creek for commuters travelling to and from Vitava village and adjoining locality," Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Joint Project Director (PR) Dilip Kawathkar said.
"The commuters today risk crossing railway track to avoid a 30-minute long walk from Vitava to Thane station. But with this skywalk, commuters can cross the distance within five minutes," Kawathkar said.
Once completed, the skywalk will benefit more than 25,000 daily commuters travelling from the station on the Central suburban line.
