Chemist shop owner and his associate arrested for selling medicines without prescription to minors

The owner of a chemist shop and his associate were arrested by the police for allegedly selling medicines without prescriptions to minors at inflated rates, officials said Tuesday.

The owner of the shop in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area, Vivek Kumar Singh and salesman Ranjit Singh were caught red handed while selling medicines to a minor without prescription.

On Monday, a juvenile had approached the police and filed a complaint, saying the owner of 'Om Sai Medicos' at Sher Singh Bazaar, was selling medicines to juveniles without prescription, police said.

"The police raided the shop and the accused was caught red handed," said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south).

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the combination of certain drugs and injections creates a new psychotropic effect.

"These injections were meant for relieving pain of cancer patients. But the duo were selling it to juveniles and drug addicts at higher prices without prescription," the officer added.

The drugs usually costs around Rs 70-80. But the accused used to sell them without prescription for Rs 250, police said.
