Formal work on "Chennai 600028 Part II" began with a traditional pooja, a press release said.
Compared to the first part, which revolves around the game of cricket and friendship among a group of boys in a slum, the sequel would feature their lives as middle-aged men, it added.
Venkat Prabhu, an ardent cricket fan, has decided to retain the cast of "Chennai 600028" for the sequel.
The film has a host of actors and actresses, including Jai, 'Mirchi' Shiva, Premji Amaran, Nithin Sathya, Vijay Vasanth and Vijayalakshmi.
