The initiative, by Delhi University Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo along with a group of Japanese people, will be launched with participants dressed in traditional Japanese attire 'Kimono' at Talkatora Gardens here.
"The plantation will ultimately lead to the world famous Cherry Blossom Festival as the trees shall grow in the subsequent years. In future people do not need to go to Japan or USA or any other foreign country to watch the beautiful Cherry Blossom event," Sahoo said.
"Japan has a wide variety of cherry blossoms having well over 200 cultivars and the Japanese Cherry Blossom Association has developed a list of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots with at least one location in every prefecture," Sahoo, who is also the Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, said.
Japan has been promoting Cherry Blossom plantation in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom and several other countries.
