In the wake of the death of two girls after consuming flavoured milk distributed under a state government scheme last month, the collectors and anganwadi workers have been directed to taste milk before providing it to the children to ensure quality.
"In order to instill confidence in children and their parents, the milk distributed under the'Chief Minister Amrut Yojana'scheme in the anganwadi centres will be tastedby the anganwadi workers before distributing it to beneficiaries," a government official said here today.
He said the children will be fed with milk only after the workers find it fit for consumption.
Besides, district collectors and other officers will also have to visit the anganwadis (the government sponsored child-care and mother-care centres) and taste the flavoured milk in order to check its quality, the official said.
A circular was issued today by the Women and Child Development department, addressed to district collectors and district programme officers.
Underthe scheme meant toeradicate malnutrition, children in the age-group of 3-6 years are provided 100 ml sweetened milk on every Monday at anganwadi centres.
