Chhattisgarh Armed Force official attempts suicide

A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) official today allegedly tried to commit suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at his camp in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said.
Assistant Platoon Commandant Ashok Sharma, belonging to 'D' company of CAF's 10th battalion was found injured with bullet shots at his barrack in camp located in Cherli village under Mirtur police station limits, Bijapur Superintendent of Police K L Dhruv told PTI.
"Sharma shot himself with his AK-47 in his right chest. When his colleagues heard the gunshots, they rushed to his barrack and found him profusely bleeding," he said.
Subsequently, he was taken to Raipur by helicopter for medical treatment, the SP said adding that his condition was said to be out of danger.
A case has been registered in this connection and investigation is on to ascertain what prompted him to take the extreme step, Dhruv said.
