Chhattisgarh Director General of Police retires from service

Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP) Ram Niwas retired here today, ending his 32-years long career.
The state police department organised a formal farewell function at the police headquarters for Niwas where he took the final salute from police personnel.
High ranking police officers attended the function.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police, Administration, Police Headquarters, A N Upadhyay has been made the in-charge DGP.
Additional Joint Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Delhi, Anand Kumar, a 1981 Madhya Pradesh cadre officer is likely to be the new Chhattisgarh DGP.
Interacting with reporters on the occasion, the retired DGP said that very soon there will be positive results in the fight against Maoists in the restive Bastar region.
"The fight against Maoism in the state and other parts of the country is on the right track. Very soon it will yield happy results. You will be able to roam freely in a bike in Maoist areas," he said.
The retired DGP had faced criticism after the Jiram Valley Maoist attack on May 25 last year in which prominent Congress leaders were killed.
