Johar Singh had come to the Akal Takht to appear before 'parallel jathedars', who had summoned him to clarify his stand in connection with an alleged religious misconduct at the gurdwara in Gurdaspur in August.
On August 1, a senior functionary of the Chhota Ghallughara Trust was allegedly caught with a woman in a compromising position at the gurdwara. Being the head of the Trust, Johar Singh was summoned to explain why he did not take action against his colleague.
When he resisted, the taskforce forcibly evicted him out of the complex, saying he could not appear before parallel Akal Takht jathedar Dhian Singh Mand.
Later, addressing reporters outside the Golden Temple, Johar Singh accused the SGPC employees of manhandling him.
Akal Takht jathedars Dhian Singh Mand, Amrik Singh Ajnala and Baljit Singh Daduwal said Johar Singh appeared before them and he was awarded punishment to clean shoes, utensils, and listen to religious hymns for seven days in the Temple.
