Chidambaram seeks Delhi police commissioner's removal
Press Trust of India New Delhi Former Home minister P Chidambaram today demanded the removal of Delhi police commissioner over the detainment of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other political leaders following the alleged suicide by an ex-serviceman over OROP issue.
"Home Minister should remove the Police Commissioner. If he is powerless to do so, he should tender his resignation," the senior congress leader said in a tweet.
He also critisied the police commissioner for the handling of the situation.
The suicide by an army veteran 70-year-old Ram Kishan Grewal over OROP today snowballed into a huge political show with Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other opposition leaders attacking the Modi government on the issue while there was high drama after police detained and prevented them from entering a hospital.
The Congress Vice President was detained twice and was finally released late in the evening as restrictions were put on Kejriwal's movements before he was briefly detained. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was kept in custody for close to 10 hours.
