A day after his conviction in a land-fraud case, the president of a century-old charitable-cum-educational body resigned from his post on Saturday.

Santokh Singh's resignation has been accepted in the general house meeting of the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD), officials said, adding that the next general election for the body would be held in November.

Singh was sentenced to five years of imprisonment by a Amritsar court for fraudulently transferring a piece of land in his name. He was elected president of the body, following the removal of Charanjit Singh Chadha by the trust members, after his objectionable sleazy video clip with a female principal went viral on social media.

The organisation is running around 47 schools, three colleges, orphanages, old-age homes, hospitals and clinics across Punjab.
