Children to get free education soon: Dy CM

Children in Jammu and Kashmir would soon be able to avail free education till elementary level, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand indicated today.
Stating that the government is ready with a law providing every child aged between four to fourteen years with the right to free and compulsory education till the completion of elementary education, Chand said the law goes beyond the provisions given by Centre.
"Education department is ready with the law to enable every child in the age group of four to fourteen years with the right to free and compulsory education till completion of elementary education," he said, adding that the draft is ready and very soon, it would be put before cabinet for approval.
The state law has gone beyond the Centre's provisions, he said, adding that special provisions have been made for children from weaker sections of the society.
Chand, who was addressing a gathering at Government Degree College at Khour in Akhnoor belt of Jammu today, called upon students to avail the benefits extended by the government.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said that steps have been taken to upgrade education infrastructure in the area for rural students, including the setting up of a college.
Talking about teachers, he said all efforts have been made to address their demands.
