China today hoped Nepal would complete its Constituent Assembly election process soon, amid calls by Maoists to stop the counting following the defeat of their leader Prachanda.
"As a friendly neighbour of Nepal, we hope that the constituent assembly elections can be a success and finish the constitution formulation process as soon as possible," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a media briefing here.
"We are waiting to work with Nepal to promote the development of our relationship to the benefit of our two peoples," he said replying to a question on Prachanda's defeat and allegations of irregularities by his United Communist Party of Nepal Maoists.
Prachanda, known for his pro-China views, visited Beijing in April this year after the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) elected new leadership headed by Xi Jinping and sought more financial and technical assistance to Nepal.
