China, Korea, Thailand emerge victorious

China, Korea and Thailand emerged victorious after beating their respective opponents in the Badminton Asia Team Championship at the Gachibowli indoor stadium here today.
While China beat Singapore 3-2, Korea trounced Philippines 5-0 in the men's category, and Thai women thrashed Sri Lanka 5-0.
The Chinese shuttlers defeated their Singapore counterparts in two singles matches and a doubles match to clinch the contest 3-2. Singapore won a doubles and a singles match in the tie.
Each tie comprises three singles and two doubles.
China's Houwei Tian, ranked world number eight in singles, posted an easy 21-11 21-12 victory over his Singapore rival Zi Liang Derek Wong, ranked 49 before China's Bin Qiao, ranked 56 in BWF world rankings, defeated a lower-ranked Zin Rei Ryan NG in another singles match.

It was a clean sweep for Korea against Philippines. 21-ranked Dong Keun Lee set the stage for his team's victory with a comprehensive 21-8 21-6 win over a lower-ranked Frell Keeyann Gabuelo.

In women's section, Thailand's Busanan Ongbumrungphan, ranked 19, got the better of 187-ranked Lekha Shehani from the island nation in the first singles match.
Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, who is ranked 22 in BWF world rankings, also registered an easy 21-5 21-7 victory against Sri Lanka's Thilini Pramodika Hendahewa.
In all 14 men's teams and 12 women's team are competing in the tournament. The participating teams will play in two stages. Top two teams from each Group qualify for the final.

The tournament also serves as Thomas and Uber Cup Asia Continental Qualifying Round.
