At least 20.5 million illegal publications were confiscated and 10,000 unauthorised websites were shut down in China by authorities in a nation-wide campaign in 2013.
The number of seizures represent a significant year-on-year decrease since 2011, a statement from the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications was quoted as saying by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
The number of such publications seized in 2011 and 2012 was 52 million and 45 million respectively.
Among the seized illegal publications are 670,000 pornographic publications, marking a 30 per cent drop compared with the figure in 2012, the report said.
While 10,000 websites were shut down during the year, authorities also solved 10,000 cases of illegal publications, including seven copyright infringement cases with each involving money up to 10 million yuan, the statement said.
