In a special campaign launched against the smuggling of agricultural products, 467 cases concerning rice were cracked, deputy head of the General Administration of Customs Zhu Feng, said.
The campaign was dubbed as "Green Wind" that mainly targeted grains, frozen meat products, sugar, cotton and cooking oil, China Daily said today.
Zhu said the total value of smuggled products discovered during the campaign was 44.9 billion yuan (USD 7.5 billion), up 96 per cent from a year earlier.
Such illegal activities aimed at evading taxes, hurt the domestic agricultural industry and pose serious food safety hazards, he said.
