Chinese among two women held for smuggling gold at IGIA

A Chinese is among two women held for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs one crore at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
Acting on inputs, the Chinese woman was intercepted by the customs officials after her arrival from Hong Kong on Thursday.
"On personal search of the passenger, four gold bars totally weighing 4 kgs valued at Rs 1.03 crore were recovered. One another Indian passenger was found in connivance in smuggling activities with the Chinese passenger," a press release issued today by the customs said.
Both the passengers were arrested and later released on bail, a senior customs official said. The gold bars have been seized.
"We have informed China's Embassy regarding the incident," said Vinayak Azaad, Additional Commissioner of customs at the airport.
In addition to this, about 15 kgs of gold, valued about Rs 4 crore, have been seized by the customs department in the first week of this year from passengers who were trying to smuggle it through the airport.
