Wang Yi made his comments during a joint press conference with with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.
"Both sides should end fighting and reach a ceasefire immediately and comprehensively to save the people and peace in the region," said Wang.
Shoukry said that the Gaza crisis was on top of their discussions.
"The Egyptian ceasefire initiative is a real chance and a solution for the crisis," said the Egyptian Shoukry, who also mentioned that the Chinese side supports the initiative.
"There is a friendship between the two countries and he who drinks from the Nile, comes back again," said Wang who mentioned that China strongly supports the Egyptian role in the region.
The Chinese foreign minister also invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to visit China soon.
