China says one of its most wanted fugitives has voluntarily returned from the US in a new victory for its campaign to track down corruption suspects who have fled abroad.
The ruling Communist Party's anti-graft body says on its website that Huang Yurong had turned herself in on Saturday at Beijing's Capital Airport. Photos on the website show Huang flanked by police in civilian clothes standing before an official and signing a document.
Huang is accused of abusing her position as head of the highway administration in the central province of Henan to embezzle funds and take bribes. She fled abroad in August 2002.
Although the US has no extradition treaty with China, it has agreed to assist in the repatriation of officials accused of corruption.
