A Singaporean Indian music-and-drama group led the opening of an exhibition here that aims to facilitate mutual understanding and exchange of culture between China and the rest of the world.

Artists from LalitAnjali presented a musical performance to open the exhibition, themed 'Silk Journey to Art', here yesterday.

The expo, organised by China-based Beijing Yi Pu Cultural Co. Ltd, presented work of 94 renowned artists from 47 countries.

The exhibition seeks to facilitate mutual understanding and exchange of culture between China and the rest of the world as well as support Beijing's One Belt One Road initiative.

LalitAnjali's lead singer Vicknesvari Vadivalagan, who opened the exhibition with classical ragas, said the Indian participation in the opening ceremony reflected the multi-cultural presentation.

The group represented Singapore's vibrant Indian music, drama and art scene built over decades, said Vicknesvari, who has been signing for 40 years, having started at the tender age of four.

Popular Chinese-American comedian Brother Sway, who is hosting the week-long exhibition here, said the organisers aim to cover India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as part of the world tour.

The exhibition aims to share the art works with different communities around the world, the organisers said in a statement.
