A Chinese legislator who was accused of raping a TV anchorwoman besides embezzling public funds was sentenced to 11 years in prison for embezzlement and fraud by a local court.
Sun Dejiang, former general manager of the Shuangcheng City Industry Corporation and deputy of Shuangcheng's People's Congress in Heilongjiang Province came to national spotlight in 2012 when well-known local TV anchor Wang Dechun posted a letter on Sina Weibo microblogging site accusing him of raping her and forcing her into a sexual relationship.
In the petition letter posted on Weibo, the 44-year-old former anchor alleged that she was forced to maintain a sexual relationship with Sun, 56 in exchange for her mother's pension and her position at a local TV station.
She said Sun forced her to have sex with him even when she was seven months pregnant, state run Xinhua news agency said.
"Sun threatened to ruin my reputation with a sex recording and forced me to have sex with him when I was seven months into my pregnancy," the letter said.
Wang also accused Sun of abusing his power for personal gain.
After an investigation launched by a local disciplinary watchdog, Sun was removed from Communist Party posts and arrested in January 2013.
He was sentenced to 11 years by Shuangcheng People's Court for various crimes including embezzling public money, state-run Xinhua news agency quoted local officials as saying.
