The man surnamed Wang started dating the woman, who worked at a foot massage parlor, in 2009. Wang suspected she was having affairs with other men last year after she started receiving ambiguous text messages from other men, the Shnaghai Daily reported.

Wang decided to take revenge and told his girlfriend his sister had died and her former husband was trying to take ownership of two apartments that rightfully belonged to his family.

Wang then told her his family was preparing a lawsuit against the former husband, but they needed a large sum of money to hire a lawyer, the court heard.

His girlfriend gave Wang 100,000 yuan to pay a lawyer and another 96,000 yuan to cover other lawsuit fees. Later, the woman became suspicious and alerted police.
