Senior member of Odisha State Bar Council Chinmay Mohanty has taken over as its interim chairman, following an order passed by the Orissa High Court.
Delivering the verdict after an analogous hearing of two writ petitions, a Division Bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice Vineet Saran yesterday ordered Mohanty to officiate as the interim chairman.
The post had fallen vacant since July 2017, when incumbent chairman Manas Mohapatra had put in his papers citing personal reasons. However, due to alleged non-cooperation of some members, polls to fill up the vacancy were repeatedly stalled.
Due to this impasse, two members of the council-" Manas Ranjan Chand and Atma Prakash Mohanty had approached the Orissa High Court in two separate petitions.
