The 20-year-old actress, in a series of tweets, said she has talked to the film's producers about the marketing choices, including the billboard that appeared last week at the Cannes Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The ad depicted a tall, thin woman in red heels standing next to a a shorter, heavier version of herself, accompanied by the tagline, "What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?"
"Please know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety."
Moretz clarified, that "the actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control."
The Red Shoes Cannes campaign sparked online criticism, with model Tess Holliday among those slamming the message.
