The annual ceremony celebrates the achievements of the African-American community in the arts, sports and other fields, reported Digital Spy.
Rock, 49, said that he has long been a viewer of the BET Awards, and is excited to be hosting this year's ceremony.
"It's one of my favourite award shows combining people from movies, sports, TV and music. Where else can you get Rick Ross and Michelle Obama in the same room?! The BET Awards is like a party where nothing is off limits. My peers have done the show now it's my turn," he said in a statement.
The 2014 BET Awards will be held at the Nokia Theatre LA Live on June 29.
