John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing the project, which is like a sequel and a reboot of the Chevy Chase franchise that began with the 1983 Harold Ramis-directed National Lampoon's "Vacation", said the Hollywood Reporter.
That film was written by John Hughes and based on his own experiences on family vacations.
The new movie follows Rusty, played by Anthony Michael Hall in the original but now portrayed by Helms, as he takes his family on a road trip similar to the one he and his parents and sister took when he was young.
