Church dispute in Kaimiri village settled

The dispute over an under-construction church at Kaimri village in Hisar which was demolished by some villagers, was settled today after a joint meeting between local authorities and Christian priests which was mediated by former finance minister Sampat Singh.
After several rounds of negotiations, the villagers assured the Christian community in the village that the construction of the church which was underway would not be stopped.
Sampat had earlier asked local authorities and representatives from both groups for negotiation talks.
Besides, the priest of Kaimri church Subhash Masih other prominent members of Christian community met with the the Sarpanch of Kamiri village Satyanarayn, former Sarpanch Dalbir Singh and others who represented the Kaimiri village.
An under-construction church in Kaimri village near Hisar was vandalised by a group and the cross replaced with an idol of Hanuman on March 15, triggering tension in the area.
The issue was settled during the meeting and both the parties would conclude their grievances and would maintain communal harmony in the village, Sampat said.
It was also settled that the villagers would not create any hindrance in the construction of church in the village and both the parties would do combined efforts to quash the police case registered against the 14 residents of the village, Sampat added.
