The CID today questioned a former doctor of a state-run hospital in connection with his alleged links to the international child trafficking racket that was busted last week from North 24 Parganas district's Baduria.
The doctor, who was learnt to be linked to Sri Krishna nursing home on College Street for more than 21 years, has been grilled for more than two hours, a senior officer of the CID said today.
"He has been asked submit his passport to the CID as a part of our investigation," the officer said.
During grilling, it surfaced that the doctor, in his mid-60s, knew Santosh Kumar Samanta, associated with the same nursing home, and was arrested for his alleged involvement in the racket.
"We are checking on this doctor's role and how he was helping the racket in trafficking the babies," the officer said, adding that the doctor has been asked to visit the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan everyday because the sleuths "need to speak to him" on daily developments in the case.
In connection with their investigations, the CID sleuths today also met a couple from Behala area who had gone to the College Street nursing home for delivery of their baby.
Meanwhile, the CID continued its raids at several nursing homes and NGOs in various districts of the state in connection with the case.
So far 18 persons have been arrested, including two doctors, for their alleged involvement in the child trafficking racket.
