"We have been thinking to come up with a state-of-the-art facility for hockey in our arm Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL)," Coal India (CIL) Director (Personnel & Industrial Relation) R Mohan Das told PTI.
Das further said that there is also a proposal to create facilities for other sports like football.
CIL is the title sponsor for "Hockey India League" 2016 that has the sanction of FIH, the international body that governs hockey across the globe, according to a company official.
"Coal India's initiative in promoting Indian hockey should assume special credence especially since 2016 is an Olympics year," the official said.
The Board of Coal India Limited has allocated Rs 14.73 crore for the title sponsorship of Hockey India League.
"The amount includes the sponsorship fee of Rs 13 crore as well as cash awards to Coal India Best Goal of the Match in each match and Coal India Most Valuable Player of Season and other expenses," Das had earlier said.
