State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) today said its arm Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) has declared an interim dividend of Rs 2,758.45 crore for 2015-16.

The company said its other arm Central Coalfields Ltd has declared an interim dividend amounting to Rs 1,457 crore for the 9-month period ended December.

"Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary company of Coal India Ltd, has declared an interim dividend of Rs 14,798.48 per share of face value of Rs 1000 each on 18,64,009 equity shares, amounting to Rs 2,758.45 crores on Feb 4, 2016 for the year 2015-16," CIL said in a filing to BSE.

This is the second interim dividend declared by MCL till date, it said.

"Thus cumulative interim dividend declared by Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd till date amounts to Rs 3,298.45 crore," the company said in the filing.

"Central Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary company of Coal India Ltd, has declared an interim dividend of Rs 1,550 per share of face value of Rs 1000 each on 94,00,000 equity shares, amounting to Rs 1,457 crores on Feb 4, 2016 for the period ended December 31, 2015," it said.

Coal India amounts for over 80% of the domestic coal production.
