A CISF constable, disabled after a road accident, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 8 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
The tribunal directed HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company Ltd, the insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay Vivek Singh a compensation of Rs 8,18,100 for the disability suffered by him in the accident.
While awarding the amount, the tribunal relied on the testimony of the victim and the FIR registered against the driver of the vehicle.
"Prosecution witness no. 1 (Singh) has very specifically stated about the manner of accident and stated that after causing accident, the driver of the offending vehicle took him to the hospital and fled away from there... Hence, it clearly makes out a case of rash and negligent driving..." MACT Presiding Officer K S Mohi said.
According to the petition filed by Singh, on June 5, 2012 around 12.30 PM, he was going to UPSC from his house on his motorcycle and when he reached Timber market in Kotla Mubarakpur here, a vehicle driven in rash and negligent manner came from behind and hit him with great force.
Due to the impact, he fell on the road and fractured his right knee and suffered grievous injuries all over his body, it said.
