Alert CISF personnel have averted atleast two suicide attempts in the last two days at the Delhi Metro network here.
Officials said the first incident occurred today afternoon
when Central Industrial Security Force constable S Mandal noticed a women sitting at the end of the platform at Tagore Garden Metro station in an apparent distressed composure.
"The constable alerted a lady Sub-Inspector who rushed to the said lady and counselled here. The lady said her husband used to harass her and hence she had come to commit suicide," a senior officer said.
She was later taken to the station control room and after counselling she left with her mother, the officer said, adding the lady refused to register a police complaint against her husband as suggested by security personnel present on the spot.
A similar incident occurred at Huda City Centre Metro station yesterday when vigilant CISF personnel timely removed a lady commuter from the railway tracks.
"She did not specify any reasons for attempting to take the drastic step. She was later handed over to Metro police," the officer said.
Stopping suicide attempts have become a big challenge for the CISF security personnel and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at the rapid rail network which witnesses an estimated footfall of 26 lakh passengers daily.
