The CISF, tasked to secure country's 60 civil airports and other vital infrastructure, will promote 12,000 personnel this year as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, its Director General Rajesh Ranjan said Tuesday.

The promotion bonanza, largely for officials in the constabulary and sub-officer ranks, was launched Tuesday as 3,159 personnel were decorated with the new ranks during a 'pipping' ceremony attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

More such ceremonies will be held this year to promote the entire lot of 12,000 personnel, a Central Industrial Security Force spokesperson said.

The CISF, only this year, had got sanction from the Home Ministry to undertake a comprehensive cadre review in the about 1.81-lakh personnel strong force.

Ranjan said a new cadre for personnel working in the motor transport wing of the force has been created for better promotion opportunities to drivers.

Constables, working in the tradesmen cadre, will also be given promotions for the first time, he said.

The CISF was raised in 1969 and it secures vital buildings in the aerospace and nuclear domain apart from rendering a variety of duties in the internal security domain of the country.
