CISF chief Arvind Ranjan today said that the paramilitary force would request the Ministry of Home Affairs to sanction more men for its special unit, which has been especially created to cater to VIP and VVIP security duties.
The decision about giving security to any person is taken by the government, CISF is tasked with implementing it, he said, adding that the force has been effectively carrying out the task.
CISF calls its VIP squad the Special Security Group (SSG).
Home Ministry is still reviewing a plan for divesting a majority of VIP security duties to this unit, thereby easing the pressure on other central forces like CRPF and ITBP.
Other dignitaries receiving 'Z-plus' category security from CISF are Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia, UP politician Amar Singh (Z category in Delhi) and Chairman of the Anti-Terrorist Front, MS Bitta.
