The violence is "totally unwelcome and non-endorsable ...CITU is surprised at the manner such violence erupted and demands a thorough enquiry by an independent agency into the entire incident including the source of provocation," it said in a statement.
Noting that there had been no violance of this scale in the last six months of unrest in the plant, it said the workers union has reportedly alleged that management engaged bouncers to manhandle the workers and their leaders during the talks with the management over the issue of suspension of one worker.
The New Trade Union Initiative (NTUI) on the other hand appeared to put the onus on the management for the violence.
"The present dispute is a well planned instigation by the management to systematically derail the ongoing negotiations on the charter of demands submitted by the Maruti Suzuki Workers Union in April 2012 and to discredit the sustained and united struggle of the workers at the Manesar plant," it said in a separate statement.
Demanding the immediate lift of the "illegal lockout" at the Manesar plant and reinstatement of the suspended worker, it condemned the manner in which Harayana Government and Gurgaon police "consorted" with the management by arresting over 100 workers including union leaders.
