Hundreds of protesters, majority of them women, took to the streets demanding repealing of the anti-workers laws including allowance of 49 percent FDI in the insurance sector.
"NDA government's economic policy has no difference with the former UPA government led by the Congress. This NDA government is destroying all democratic and federal parliamentary practices and has adopted anti-labour laws, without consultation with the trade unions and state governments. Even many BJP ruled states have lodged complaints against such practices," National Secretary of CITU Swadesh Dev Roye said.
Sankar Prashad Datta, MP and secretary of the Tripura unit of CITU claimed more than 10,000 protesters today courted arrest in front of AIR (All India Radio) office when they tried to enter the office premises after demonstrations.
