A city-based company is planning to set up a manufacturing unit in Howrah district for generators capable of producing potable water for households directly from the atmosphere.
"We are planning to set up a manufacturing line in Howrah for household atmospheric water generators. The capacity of the household model will be about 40 litres a day. The investment would be around Rs 30-40 crore," Trishan Akvo AWG Director, N S Bagga said here today.
The company said the 40-litre model is likely to be priced between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 per unit.
"We are already working on this project and hope to commence production from January-February 2018 near our existing plant meant for industrial size AWGs," he said.
Currently, the company is producing industrial size AWGs with capacity ranging from 1,000 litres a day to 5,000 litres a day at the Howrah plant.
Company officials claimed that since power is the only input expense, and along with depreciation, the cost for one litre of water will be less than Rs 1.5 a litre, based on 40 per cent humidity level in the air at 28 degrees Celsius temperature.
Bagga said the atmospheric water generators have several advantages over the reverse osmosis-based water purifiers, as it operates without any water supply and does not waste it in the process of purification.
"The water produced in the machine is like distilled water so it does not require any purification," he said.
