City braces for summer, LG wants water, power issues addressed

Bracing for the scorching days ahead, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung today asked Deputy Commissioners to co-ordinate with various agencies on issues of water and power supply and submit "regular" reports on civic issues in their districts.
Reviewed the functioning of the Deputy Commissioners, he said they should adopt a people-friendly approach and ensure time-bound delivery of services.
"You must not forget that civil servants are meant to serve the people. You must treat this opportunity to serve the people as a privilege
"You must lead by example and inspire your staff to follow suit so that there is proper delivery of services to the public in your districts," the Lt Governor said.
With mercury soaring, he directed the Deputy Commissioners to pay special attention to shortage of water and electricity during the summers and to coordinate with governmental agencies to ensure that their districts are well-served and people are facilitated by their offices.
Jung urged the Deputy Commissioners to explore innovative solutions to problems in their districts, particularly those that they are likely to encounter in the coming summer months.

He also laid emphasis on field visits and instructed the Deputy Commissioners to review such surveys of their officers and take necessary action based on ground reports submitted to them on issues within their districts.
He also urged them to conceptualise the ideal position of their respective districts and submit a comprehensive plan to him within the next two weeks.
The Divisional Commissioners have been instructed to develop a fortnightly format for submission of reports on issues in each district, which is to be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor on a regular basis and will be followed by regular fortnightly meetings at the Raj Niwas.
He also highlighted the need to pay attention to issues related to traffic and other civic matters in their respective districts.
Afte the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor reviewed the presentation made by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority at the Raj Niwas.
