City bus services exclusively for women with women conductors and police personnel have started operating from today in Guwahati.
Assam Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla flagged off the bus service, initiated under the aegis of the Kamrup(Metro) district administration and District Transport department, from Judges' Field here.
Khosla, in his address, said that women have an important role to play in society and they have to come out of their homes to perform various duties and responsibilities.
''A bus service exclusive for them will ensure their safety and security and also help in empowering them further'', the Chief secretary added.
Initially eight buses, six belonging to private operators and two of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC), would ply in different routes of the city.
The buses also have CCTV camera facilities and women constables and conductors on duty.
The buses will ply from 7 a.M to 11a.M and again from 3 p.M to 8 p.M.
