City factory owners fined for electricity theft

While hearing two separate cases of electricity theft, Additional Sessions Judge Suresh Kumar Gupta fined Suresh, a factory owner of village Kamruddin Nagar in Nangloi and Amrit Paul also a prominent factory owner from West Delhi, a cumulative sum of Rs 38.5 lakh, a statement by power discom BSES said.

While Paul was fined a sum of Rs 14.2 lakh for stealing 19.73 KW of electricity in March 2008, Suresh was asked to pay a fine of Rs 24.33 lakh.

Besides, he was sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment for stealing 32 KW of electricity.

Suresh was found bypassing the meter during an inspection by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited in March 2008. He had a sanctioned load (domestic) of just 1 KW. While Paul was found ingeniously bypassing the electricity meters installed at the premises.
