Civic body employee shot dead in east Delhi

A 45-year-old employee of a city civic body was gunned down here this morning by unidentified assailants in northeast Delhi's Shahdara, barely a few hundred metres from the office of the area's DCP.
The incident took place at around 6:30 am when the victim, identified as Ashok Kumar, was riding his motorcycle on his way to work, and was shot in the back.
"As he was lying in a pool of blood with his bike lying nearby, a rickshawpuller thought that he had had an accident and alerted police. A PCR team rushed him to GTB Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead and revealed that he had a gunshot in his back," said a police official.
Kumar originally hailed from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. He was posted with Shahdara (North) Zone office of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) as an assistant sanitary inspector and lived with his family in Khera village near Shahdara.
Police has registered a case of murder at GTB Enclave police station against unknown persons and several teams have been formed to investigate the case.
Investigators have questioned Kumar's family, friends and colleagues to find out whether he had any rivalry with anyone.

It has also come to light that Ashok was earlier posted in Nand Nagri. A municipal employee posted ther was also murdered in April last year. We are trying to find out if Ashok's murder has anything to do with the previous murder, he added.
In another incident reported from outer Delhi's Shahabad Dairy, body of a woman, in her mid 20s was found at an isolated DDA plot here this morning.
Her identity could not be established till night, though two names 'Ajay and Pinki' were found tattooed on her hand. Police suspected that she was strangled.
