Civic body moves stray animals out, gau-sevaks protest

Civic authorities here have transported over 1,000 stray animals, including cows, to forest areas triggering a hunger-strike by gau sevaks led by a Youth Congress leader against the move.
The protesters alleged that the cows were left in the forest, the terrain of which is stony and near the railway tracks causing many of those bovines being run over by trains.
Purported photographs of killed and injured cows were sent to the municipal council and the district collector, they said.
The gau sevaks yesterday started the hunger strike against the civic body's move.
The municipal council officials wasted money in transporting the stray cows. In a very inhuman way, they did not take note of safety measures for the animals, state Youth Congress general secretary Charmesh Sharma alleged demanding an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, Bundi Municipal Council Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Mangal said after several meetings with gaushalas over giving shelter to stray cows and animals failed, the decision to transport the animals into the forest was taken.
Sections of the society have hailed the civic body's move, saying the roads are now free from stray animals.
