The action against C P Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of the Singrauli Municipal Corporation, was taken on a complaint filed by the Soch Education and Welfare Society, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Devesh Pathak.
According to the complaint, the 59-year-old officer had allegedly demanded Rs 1.10 lakh for approving bills of Rs 37 lakh submitted by the society, Pathak said.
"We caught Pandey red-handed while taking Rs 1.10 lakh as bribe at his office. An FIR has been registered in this matter. Further investigation is underway," he added.
However, its two bills of Rs 37 lakh were pending with the corporation for clearance and Pandey was asking for bribe for clearing this amount, he added.
