An emotional Thakur dedicated his degree to his teachers and parents, while recalling his childhood and schooling in Jammu and Kashmir.
"On this occasion, I pay tributes to my teachers and dedicate this degree to them and my parents. This is the second time I am being honoured with a Doctorate Degree.
"First time it was in Lucknow but I am deeply grateful for this honour, as it has come from the university from where I received my LLB," he said.
The Governor conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws on Justice Thakur.

He said the population of Jammu and Kashmir was one tenth of the population of states like Uttar Pradesh but the size of the state has not affected its human resources.
"To the students here, I only say that I am a product of a government school, government college. Our teachers were good. They could create, shape and prepare people for the struggles of life," he said.
