CJM recalls transit remand order, Sudha Bhardwaj to be under house arrest

A local court here today directed that trade unionist and lawyer Sudha Bhardwaj will remain at her residence under Surajkund Police guard till Thursday.

Last night, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the transit remand of Bhardwaj, who was arrested from Faridabad after the Maharashtra Police raided the homes of prominent Left-wing activists in several states for their suspected Maoist links.

In the early hours today, Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashok Sharma recalled his previous order for the transit remand and directed that as per the HC order Bhardwaj will remain at her residence till August 30 under Surajkund Police guard.

The high court had said, "It is directed that in case the detenue is produced before the Ilaqa Magistrate/Duty Magistrate/Chief Judicial Magistrate, Faridabad, the orders granting transit remand will be passed after going through the contents of the FIR and recording a finding that the provision of Sections 41 and 50 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been compiled with,"
