"Claims data shows a 57 per cent rise in claim amount for diabetes and related ailments amongst individuals below 35
years," SBI General Insurance said in a report today quoting its own claims data from FY16, FY17 and the first half of the current fiscal.
The study further reveals that around 15 per cent of the total claims made against diseases are for diabetes and related ailments.
Among the diabetes related ailments, diseases of the circulatory system saw maximum claims, with 18.90 per cent share, it said.

The study further said as much as 60 per cent of claims for diabetes and related ailments claims came from the non-metros.
Region-wise, Maharashtra had the highest claim amount paid against diabetes and related ailments at 10.44 per cent during the reporting period, while Uttar Pradesh had the lowest at 1.67 per cent, it added.
"The data indicates that diabetes is not just restricted to the metros but is also affecting small towns, with their incidences being higher than metros," SBI General deputy vice-president for accident and health claims Sukhesh Bhave said.
