A cleric was allegedly threatened when he refused to perform 'nikah' of a youth at Kandhla town in Shamli district.
The incident occurred yesterday when Dilshad, accompanied by some of his friends, went to Maulana Temure Jang and pressured him to perform his 'nikah', police said.
The cleric, however, was not convinced and declined to perform the wedding ceremony.
An angry Dilshad and his friends - Mustafa, Intazar and Ahsan - threatened him and snatched his marriage registration book, according to a complaint filed by the cleric.
Police said they are investigating the matter.
