Fearing an after-effect of the renewed controversy over her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton's campaign today accused FBI Director James Comey of engaging in a double standard.
"Director Comey felt it was incumbent upon him to announce the FBI had some information they never even looked at, but they won't reveal connections to Russia," the Clinton Campaign manager Robby Mook told the CNN.
"He was also asked repeatedly under oath in hearings whether he was investigating connections between Donald Trump and Russia and he refused to answer that question. Yet he has absolutely no problem whatsoever coming out and talking about investigations against Hillary Clinton. It's a total breach of protocol,"Mook said.
Last week Comey wrote a letter to top Congressional leadership about his decision to reopen its investigations into Clinton's email scandal after coming across pertinent emails related to this case while doing other investigation.
The letter, described as "October bombshell" by CNN, has resulted in a sharp drop in popularity rating of Clinton.
Before this she was seen cruising to a comfortable victory against Trump. The Clinton Campaign has asked the FBI to release all information about the case.

A large number of former US attorneys have written to the FBI against such a move, while several top American lawmakers have said that by writing such a letter just before the elections, Comey might have violated the long-established tradition of non-interference in elections.
"Now that he has opened the door, now that he has weighed in to this election, we're saying let's get all the information out there," Mook said.
"The FBI has been frustratingly noncommittal, and they don't say a thing when it comes to Trump and investigations against him. Yet when it comes to Clinton, for some reason, they're more than happy to talk," he alleged.
"There's a lot out there on Trump. Again, it was shocking to me yesterday that every time people asked questions about investigations pertaining to Trump, they are tight-lipped and silent, quote unquote sticking with protocol. When it comes to Clinton, they don't," he said.
"It is impossible to view this as anything less than a blatant double standard," Mook said.
Mook said Clinton Campaign is seeking a fair treatment from the FBI. "We just want fairness. He thought it was perfectly fine for the FBI to send a letter to Capitol Hill about information they had never looked at and say, hey, we have some information, Republican chairman, do you want to speculate on what it might be?" he said.
"He (Comey) knew they would leak that letter. He knew there would be false headlines. If director Comey was so concerned about how information would be handled and about the reputation of the FBI, why did he release this letter?" Mook asked.
