The Punjab government will set up a cluster of plywood industry over 400 acres of land at Hoshiarpur as part of its efforts to boost this sector in the state.
"We will come up with a cluster for plywood industry at Hoshiarpur, which will be spread over 400 acres of land," said Punjab Industry minister Sunder Sham Arora here today.
He also said that a new focal point for iron and steel industry would also be set up at Mandi Gobindgarh.
"The new focal point will come up at 133 acres of land at village Wazirabad near Mandi Gobindgarh," he added.
The minister said the state had received investment proposals worth Rs 9,300 crore in the last one year or so which would generate 50,000 jobs.
"Since the Congress government coming to power, the state received investment proposals worth Rs 9,300 crore and the work on these projects has already started," said Arora.

He said investments proposals worth Rs 602 crore for setting up new steel industrial units alone at Mandi Gobindgarh had been received.
He further said a petro chemical industry would also come up at Bathinda with an outlay of Rs 23,000 crore.
Arora said the approval to the modified industrial policy was expected to be given in the Cabinet meeting on July 25.
"It will entail tax exemption like state GST, property tax, stamp duty for the industrial units," he said.
